Fiber Art Workshops

Here is where you can find all the information you need about the Fiber Art Workshops being held in my backyard throughout the year!

General info:  Kids Workshops are geared towards kids ages 4-12 but can be for everyone as well.  Adult workshops are geared towards those ages 12 and up.  All materials are provided.  Workshops for everyone are for ages 4 and up. 

All fees are due one week prior to workshop. All workshops are held in my backyard in Santa Fe Springs, Ca.  Parents are expected to remain for all workshops during kids workshops.  There will be a space for you to relax and some light refreshments provided for the parents.  Your children will be within your eyesight for the entire workshop.

Call  562-544-8655 or email me at UnderhillCrafts@aol.com to reserve your place.  Payments can be made via Paypal, check, cash or credit card.  You will receive a confirmation email one week prior to the workshop with the address and other details as necessary.  You can also check back here on this page for confirmation.  I will put first names only into the time slots as spaces fill up.  (I will put a star next to each name as payment is received.  You may be bumped from the class if payment is not received or arranged and others are waiting for a space.) More spaces may be added if there is enough interest.

Felted Soap
Kids workshop
Learn how to make felted soaps!  What would you use felted soap for?  It's great!  The wool you use for felting makes a washcloth that is attached to your soap so it doesn't slip out of your hands.  It also extends the life of your soap since it's not sitting in a pool of water just washing away.  :)
Learn 3 different techniques and take 3 home with you!
Be prepared to get a little wet and somewhat messy.

Workshop #2  May 21, 2012   Cost:  $35
Homemade Dryer balls
Everyone welcome!
Dryer balls are a great natural way to reduce your drying time in your dryer.  They are made of 100% wool and not only do they reduce your drying time, your kids will have a blast playing with them!  I challenge you to find all 3 that you make after doing 3 loads of laundry!
Be prepared to get a little wet and maybe a little messy.

Workshop #3   June 21, 2012  Cost:  $40
Felted Toys
Kids workshop!
Make two felted toys and take them home!  One will be a felted bendable snake, the second is a surprise!
This is another workshop where you will get a little wet, and maybe a little messy too.  :)

Workshop #4  July 14, 2012  Cost  $65
Cobweb Scarf
ADULTS ONLY
Cobweb scarves are beautiful, one of a kind, lightweight, airy, and yet warm.  You can wear them as an accent to that cute summer dress, or wrapped around your neck to keep you warm in winter.  Extremely versatile, and yet so pretty!  Materials used will be various wool fibers such as merino and bfl, silk, and firestar for sparkle!
You will choose and prepare all your fiber as well as felt your scarf.  It will still be slightly damp when you leave, but you will take your scarf home with you!  :)

Be prepared to get a little wet and maybe a little messy.  An apron can help keep some of the water away, but probably not all.

Workshop #5  August 11, 2012  Cost  $35
Beginning Spinning
Ages 10 and up (Adults are more than welcome!)
Learn the basics of spinning on a top whorl drop spindle.
A top whorl spindle will be loaned to you that day for the class, and you will be given ample fiber to begin spinning.  Spindles and extra wool will be available for purchase should you chose to continue spinning at home.

Weaving
Kids Workshop
You will learn some basic weaving skills and take home at least one finished project.  Different types of weaving will be discussed, we will be exploring weaving in various forms.  Looms will be provided for the workshop.  Looms for purchase will be available this day as well if you would like to continue weaving at home!

Workshop #7  October 20, 2012  Cost  $35
Papermaking
Workshop for Everyone
Using homemade deckles, you will learn how to make homemade paper and you will finish at least 3 sheets to take home!  Homemade paper is great for scrapbooking, notecards, or even beautiful backgrounds in your photo frames.
Be prepared to get a little wet and definitely messy.  :)
